Tips on How to Freshen Up Your Workspace

Let In the Natural Light

We’re all dying to soak up the sunshine after a gloomy winter, so why not work it into your workspace?

Not only does natural light just make a place feel homier (no one’s ever said, “I love the vibe of fluorescent lights”) but it also can have an amazing impact on your productivity and health! There are a bunch of studies that show that natural light in a workspace makes for happier, healthier, and better performing employees.

If your WFH situation or office don’t have a ton of sunlight, there are other ways that you can work natural light into your space! Using colored lights instead of bright white lights can do wonders when it comes to feeling cozier in your workspace. You can also use mirrors to your advantage to maximize the natural sunlight that you do have!

In our studio, we have natural light to maximize the cozy feel and boost our brainpower. We’re very thankful for the giant window near the front of our creative space that gives us natural light for the whole day!

Clean and Organize Often

One of the best ways to get your mind right is to clean and organize your space. If you are a messier person, this tip might be more challenging, so keep reading.

Spring cleaning is all about making space to set yourself up for a new season of success. Here are some simple things that you can do to make your space feel clean and fresh again:

  • Wipe down your desk, keyboard, and mouse with an antibacterial wipe

  • Clean your monitor with glass cleaner

  • Organize any papers that you have lying around

  • Throw away any lingering trash

  • Replace any supplies, such as tissues, pens, or trash bags

  • Vacuum or sweep around your desk

Obviously, spring cleaning isn’t a new concept. People have been clearing out their clutter to prepare for a brand-new season for years. But in the age of cluttered inboxes and endless Slack messages, it’s also important to get organized digitally as well.

Go through your email and project management tools and clean up your organizing system. Add new folders in your email, clean up workflows, and try to get to the ever-elusive inbox zero. When you clean up your email and other digital tools, you will immediately feel better about tackling everything you need to do.

If you still utilize a lot of papers in your day, try switching to digital tools to reduce clutter. In our office, we use note-taking apps like Goodnotes on our iPads to consolidate everything to one device. Less paper waste, less office clutter.

Your studio doesn’t have to be all work and no play. Add cute, functional accessories to add a personal touch to your workspace!

Choose Cute Accessories That Have a Function

When you work in a creative field, fun and expressive décor is a must. But it’s also important to have office accessories that are functional as well as adorable.

We are 100 percent guilty of having office décor that looks cute but serves no function. Having decorations that put the ‘fun’ in ‘functional’ is the key to having an aesthetic and organized space.

Try incorporating pieces that work as storage space solutions or clutter control that also reflect your unique personal style! Whether it’s a chic dry erase board or some funky trinket dishes, choose accessories that serve a function.

For example, we have a corkboard in our office that acts as a mood board for our clients. Not only does it look cute, but it also helps us figure out color schemes and layouts for brand!

Another great way to add a personal touch to your creative space is to get an office plant. If you’re looking to add some nature vibes to your space, it’s best to opt for a low-maintenance plant, such as a succulent or an evergreen. That way you don’t have to worry about leaving it in the office over the week or on vacay.

Are plants not your thing? You can still get the feel of a live plant with an artificial one! This way you get ~all the feels~ of an English garden right from the comfort of your desk chair.

Getting organized for spring should be a fun process.

Besides bringing your Pinterest ideas to life, freshening up your office for spring is a great way to clear your head for all your amazing ideas to come. The state of your workspace will set the tone for your workflow, so why not have fun with it?
